It is already a tradition that many tech businesses, start-ups and investors gather in Helsinki in November – for SLUSH.
This year, SULI also invited people interested in Nordic and Baltic business relationships to meet at the same time and organized Nordic-Baltic Business summit as an official side event of SLUSH.
On November 20th, a busy program followed the whole day, starting with the morning session at OP Group’s headquarters in Vallila, and followed by more relaxed atmosphere, discussions, workshops, and networking drinks in the afternoon at Art Studio Vallila.
This year, the Summit’s theme was “Culture, Mindset, Collaboration” which was well groomed during the day’s program. The event was opened up by H.E. Valdemaras Sarapinas, ambassador of Republic of Lithuania in Finland, followed by welcoming words by Henrik Nuuttila, Area Lead at OP Group.
The Summit’s keynote speech was given by Mr. Timo Kiuru, marketing executive, creative director and author with wide international marketing experience, about customer experience as a lasting competitive advantage for any business. According to Timo, branding is no longer “polishing the surface” but inviting customers closer to the heart of the company, “opening the inside”. His keynote was followed by Tomas Vitkus, managing director of Tieto Lietuva, Tieto being a major global IT consulting group. Tomas talked about Tieto’s experience in overcoming cultural and location barriers to success and working together in multiple continents.
The morning presentations were followed by a panel discussion of the speakers, moderated by Dr. Vitalija Danivska, member of the board at SULI, challenging the panelists: “Do we need more evolution, or a revolution in the current dynamic development in business affecting people’s lives?”
After inspiring lunch conversations, participants took a short walk into the afternoon session location – Art Studio Vallila, a creative hub in the heart of the old industrial Vallila area. The afternoon session started with Ms. Sointu Kouki, a business coach at Trainers’ House, her message being that employees will deliver a customer experience that matches their own experience in the organization.
Mr. Audrius Masiulionis, Commercial Attaché at the Embassy of Lithuania in Helsinki gave an excellent overview of the business opportunities in Lithuania, for example the Free Economic Zones open for foreign investment.
Mr. Tommi Timoharju, Lead at Alimetrics Diagnostics Oy as one of the event sponsors talked about gut microbiome recognized as “the second brain”.
After formal presentations, a workshop “Model for a future leader” with brainstorming team discussions went on for the next hour, as moderated by Mikko Määttä.
The event was finalized with socializing, networking and warmhearted buzz over a glass of wine and plentiful new connections made and business cards exchanged between the participants. Around thirty people attended the summit and we at SULI hope that everyone enjoyed themselves and learned at least one new thing throughout the day.
Appreciation goes to our sponsors OP Bank, Alimetrics, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Republic of Lithuania for making this event possible, thank you to all our participants for engaging the day, thank you to our speakers – you made this event so memorable and thank you to our chairman of the day – Risto Uusitalo, another member of the SULI board!
Look forward to seeing you in the upcoming SULI events!
