Gas seminar was a success

As the Finnish gas market is opening up from January 1st 2020 and Finland will form a common gas market area together with Estonia and Latvia, SULI and Finnish Energy (Energiateollisuus) arranged a gas market seminar in Helsinki on November 6th. Lithuania, although not yet a member of the common market area, is in a key position what comes to alternative gas routes to the three other countries. The Ambassador of Lithuania to Finland Valdemaras Sarapinas honored the occasion together with Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment Hannele Pokka. The event was opened by the CEO of Finnish Energy Jukka Leskelä and vice-chairman of SULI Kristian Rehnström.

A good number of Lithuanian representatives presented their views on the development of the gas market. Vytautas Ruolia from Amber Grid talked about the new gas interconnections being built between Lithuania and Poland (GIPL) and the Baltic Pipe from Denmark to Poland. Gintaras Byzkys from Get Baltic presented trading on the regional gas exchange and how that will be organized in Finland. Klaipėdos Nafta was represented by Arūnas Molis, which has an important role in enabling LNG deliveries to the region. Finally Haroldas Nausėda from Ignitis gave a presentation of the company and its possibilities to sell gas to Finnish customers.

The seminar held at Eteläranta 10 gathered some 90 participants mainly from Finnish energy companies and SULI members.
